Principal's Message

Westville Blackhawks,

Fall is probably my most favorite season of the year!  The temperature is finally where it is cold in the morning and beautiful during the day.  The fall colors are in full swing, and the monthly holidays are focused on caring, gratitude, and fun.

Speaking of gratitude, we have much to be grateful for here at Westville Elementary.  We have a wonderful, caring staff and of course our students, who challenge themselves each day to learn (both in person and through virtual means) and be engaged.  They work hard each day and strive to exemplify our LifeGoals of Treating People Right and Doing the Right Thing.

Thank you so much to those of you that were able to attend our Parent/Teacher Conferences!  Although they were held virtually, they work to keep the school staff and families well-informed on our students’ progress as we have already completed a quarter of the school year.

La Porte County shows a high level of COVID-19 cases as reported by their “Orange” status.  Due to this, we will not currently be holding large presentations or programs.  We are planning to hold our 2019/2020 Academic Awards and Accelerated Reader Awards prior to the Thanksgiving Break with a “drive-through” awards pick up and various congratulatory messages posted to the Elementary Facebook page.  More information will be sent out for this upcoming celebration.

Veteran’s Day is quickly approaching and while this school year has presented us with many challenges, we still want to celebrate the important contributions and sacrifices of our community’s Veterans.  We would like to create a “Wall of Recognition” for Veterans during the next few weeks.  We have always loved celebrating with our Veterans and do not plan to let the COVID Pandemic end this important tradition in our school.  It will be amazing to see our students stop in the halls to read and view the history of our WES family members that have served in the Armed Forces.  If you are able, send in a copy of a photo of your veteran in uniform, along with their branch of service, rank, time & place served.  We will proudly display his/her picture for all to admire.  I have attached a google document that can be downloaded, edited with your information/picture, and printed.  Send completed forms to the elementary office.  We will publish photos from our display to our elementary Facebook page with other timely posting for the day.

2020 Veterans Day “Wall of Recognition”  (Please be sure to click “File” and make a copy prior to starting to fill out this form.)

A few quick reminders:

  • Picture Retakes will be occurring here at school on Wednesday 10-28-20.  Any students that would like to have their pictures retaken should bring their original picture package and give that to their classroom teacher first thing in the morning.  Students that are learning virtually, may come in from 8:15 until 9:30 through door #7 to have retakes made.  It is very important that all students have their pictures taken as this will be how students are included in our school yearbook.
  • Don’t Forget to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 1st as we enter Daylight Savings Time!
  • November 3rd is our next E-Learning Day.  This is a day where all students will be working on lessons from home while teachers are in professional development sessions and team meetings.
  • November 4th – our Butterbraids will be available for pick up afterschool near door #8.  More information will be sent out regarding this pick up.
